Nigeria continues to be among the safest countries in the world to live, according to Bayo Onanuga,

President Bola Tinubu’s special adviser for information and strategy, despite recent kidnappings and murders by non-state actors in the nation.

In an opinion piece published on Wednesday, Mr. Onanuga made this claim, stating that, based on evidence and statistics, Nigeria is safer than both South Africa and the United States of America.

According to Sahara Reporters, The presidential assistant went on to explain Nigeria’s predicament by pointing out that it is not among the top ten nations in the world for the worst abduction rates.

He asked people to quit downplaying the efforts the government has been making since 2009 to combat insecurity.

According to a coalition of civil society organizations (CSOs) operating under the auspices of the Civil Society Joint Action Group, at least 2,423 people had died and 1,872 had been kidnapped in the first eight months of President Bola Tinubu’s administration, according to a report published by Sahara Reporters on Tuesday.

This was disclosed by Auwal Musa Rafsanjani, Executive Director of the Civil Society Legislative Advocacy Centre (CISLAC), during a press conference on Monday in Abuja on behalf of the coalition, who was pleading with the President to declare a state of emergency due to the nation’s current security situation.

“Our security agencies deserve society’s appreciation for their efforts so far, in trying to nip in the bud the security threats that our country faces,”

Onanuga stated in response to reports of the dire security situation.
