SAMSUNG are busy getting ready for the launch of the Galaxy Note 8, but the Korean tech giant have already begun work on the Galaxy Note 9.
Samsung may be set to unveil the Galaxy Note 8 this month, but that has not stopped the tech giant from starting work on its successor – the Note 9. It’s believed Samsung are preparing a major overhaul of the fingerprint scanner for the Note 8 successor. Earlier this year, Samsung faced a backlash with the Galaxy S8 and S8+ over the placement of its fingerprint scanner.

The South Korean tech giant faced criticism as it the fingerprint was placed right next to the phone’s camera on the back. This made it easy for the camera to get smudged with fingerprint marks as people tried to unlocked their phone. The Note 8 is expected to keep the fingerprint scanner, with the position of it rumoured to be now underneath the camera instead of right next to it.

The same design is expected to feature on the Galaxy S9, but 9to5Google are reporting the fingerprint scanner will get a big shake-up with the Note 9. They claim Samsung are planning on make the Galaxy Note 9 their first device to feature an under-display fingerprint scanner.
Apple had been rumoured to be working on an in-display fingerprint reader for the iPhone 8 also. But a report from KGI analyst Ming-Chi Kuo has claimed they are holding off on this feature, and could instead use a virtual button instead.

It’s been claimed Samsung are planning to introduce the feature with the Note 9 so they have time to refine it. In the article by 9to5Google, they reported: “Since OLED iPhone has cancelled under-display fingerprint recognition/touch ID function, and as Galaxy S9 will have the new selling points of upgraded iris recognition and dual camera, Samsung has no need to risk adopting under-display optical fingerprint solution in a hurry.”

Last week, Samsung Galaxy Note 8 fans were treated to high-resolution renders of the upcoming smartphone which leaked online.
The Note 8 is expected to be unveiled during a media event on August 23 in New York. But the surprise was ruined by a fresh leak from renowned tipster Evan Blass. The serial leakster previously revealed the final design of the Galaxy S8 ahead of its launch earlier this year. And now Blass – who is better known under his pen name @EvLeaks – has shared a high-resolution render of the Galaxy Note 8.

Blass’ image tallies with a number of rumours about the upcoming Galaxy Note smartphone. The follow-up to the infamous Galaxy Note 7 (which suffered serious problems with batteries overheating and had to be discontinued) is heavily rumoured to follow Galaxy S8’s lead and include an edge-to-edge Infinity Display
